Princess Runway

On Tuesday and Wednesday my school hosted a Fashion Show. My Mini Company group decided it would be great chance for us to sell our product to the public. Our product is a make-up bag with wrap in which you can place your make up brushes.
The Fashion show was amazing! It was great to see my entire school come together and pull it off, it was a big success!

The not so glass slipper

On Friday we all to wear our own clothes and funky shoes to help spread mental health awareness and to donate money collected from each student from wearing in their own clothes and shoes to the Walk In My Shoes Foundation. The Walk In My Shoes Foundation is here to help young adults who experience mental difficulty.

Statistics say that:

  • 1 in 4 young people in Ireland will experience a mental health difficulty.
  • Suicide is the leading cause of death among 18-25 year old men in Ireland and the second most common cause of death generally in this age group.
  • Ireland has one of the highest suicide rates in the 14-24 age group in the EU.
  • 1 in 6 employees in Ireland will experience a mental health difficulty.

Fun Walk!

Class Aurora for the past week or so have been putting together a dance routine for the Fun Walk. The Fun Walk is a tradition in our school to promote Anti-Bullying Week and Friendship Week. Its a great day for the students and for the teachers who also compete in the dance contest. Our colour this year was Yellow :).
And I can gladly tell you that class Aurora's hard work paid off! As we won! YAY!
We went with the theme of Sleeping Beauty, as that is our class name. We split the class into two, one half being the bad fairies and the other the good fairies. The good fairies then turned the bad fairies good and we then danced to 'Wake Me Up Before Go Go' by Wham. I held up a sign that read "You Can't Spell Beauty Without TY". We had our tutor dressed as Maleficent. It was great to watch all the other classes do their dances. Its great to see the entire school get involved and support each and every class making a complete fool of themselves for the sake of everyone's entertainment.

Your Digital Fairytale

I recently watched a YouTube clip on Digital Dossier. A dossier is a collection of documents about a particular person, event or subject.Your digital dossier is the accumulation of all the digital tracks you leave behind. This accumulation started before you were even born when your mother had a sonogram. This image of you in the womb was not only framed by your parents but shared to all relatives and is the first entry into your hospital file.
When you're born your parents would then send a text to all family members, this text contains your gender, weight, health and the time of birth. Photos will be taken on electrical devices and uploaded to social media websites. As a new baby grows so does their digital dossier. Photos will be captured all throughout life.
Soon you can then independently share information about yourself when you register on the likes of Club Penguin then during adolescence you can sign up for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Everything a person Google's is saves from the persons IP Address. When you go to buy something online that website then knows your credit card details. Your credit card details contain the records of everything you've ever bought and the price of it.
Your digital dossier is inevitable, unless you are part of some tribe that lives on island away from the world of technology. But if that were true, the possibility of you being capable of reading this post is incredibly slim. Even after just simply viewing my blog, your computer has saved that to history.
I try to look at this in a positive way although the thought of it quite frankly frightens jeebes out of me. Historians in the future won't have a hard time in understanding how this generation lived. They'll be able to access a persons entire life story from when they were five months in the womb until the day they die. We all want to leave a mark on this world, and maybe want to share our story with the world. I realise now that its impossible not to leave a mark, and our story, is our digital dossier.

Princess Bootcamp

On Monday morning I got up at 6 o'clock to be on the bus for 7 o'clock sharp. Everyone was tired, but excited all the same for what was to come when we walked through an old stone arch into the small but uber cute town of Carlingford.
There we were greeted by the ever so lovely staff in the volleyball court and were divided up into groups of A and B. I was in group B along with all of my friends. Our first activity was kayaking, this was completely new to me as I have never gotten the opportunity to kayak before. I was a bit nervous and experienced some difficulty at the start, but I quickly got the hang of it and it was great fun.
I had nearly reached my limit before we even got to begin our second activity, as we had to walk up this really steep road up a hill to get to the forest while wearing a 'cam- onesie' (camouflage onesie) and carrying a quite heavy gun (the tourists were quite nervous when they saw a big group of girls all dressed in camouflage carrying a weapon). When we finally arrived at the forest we were split into tams of blue and red. I was on the winning team, the blue team. I have played laser tag countless times before but never in a forest, it was so much more fun.
After our dinner we had to make our way back to the forest where we were blindfolded and only had a rope to guide us, this was a lot of fun and involved a lot of screaming.
Then when we got back we got into our cozy pajamas and started our own pajama disco! This was lots of fun, us wolstan's girls really know how to party!
The following morning we went canoeing and had a blast on the water trampoline we then jumped into the freezing cold Irish sea to swim back to our boats.
In our last activity in Carlingford we had to do different types of challenges where we all had to work together, I found the team I was in worked really well together which made this activity enjoyable.
Then on Wednesday we had a day full of workshops to recover from our exhausting but amazing experience in Carlingford, Our first workshop was on stress. I learned in this workshop I learned a lot about myself and that I'm an observer. Our second workshop was on etiquette, this time we learned whether we were warm or cool. I found out that I'm neutral, which means I can wear a range of many different colours. We also learned what type of shaped face we had and then how to apply makeup to work well with our shaped face. Our final workshop was on work experience, we learned how to prepare for it and all the many benefits of work experience. I'm looking forward to experiencing the world of work.
On Thursday we went to Maynooth University to attend a talk on Mini Company. Here we learned about the previous winners of Mini Company and how to come up with an idea of a good product. I have a couple of ideas now that I'm really excited about.

Fittting of the Glass Slipper

Wednesday morning I was up bright and early for my mams graduation. It was a wonderful ceremony celebrating such a great achievement for each talented and gifted individual graduate. I stole a moment to imagine myself receiving that piece of paper rolled and tied with a bow and wearing a gown of many colours. I look forward to the day I throw my cap into the air and start my journey into the big but beautiful world of work.
I have many hurdles to overcome first and one of which was the Junior Cert. I'm delighted to say that after so much work and hours on end of studying and procrastination, it all paid off. I made it just in time to receive the brown envelope after I spent that morning at my mams graduation. To celebrate not only my mams achievement but my own we went out for lunch and then that night I went out with my friends celebrating the fact that we survived third year and the dreaded Junior Cert, and what a great night we had.
I baked for the first time in TY the other day. I am proud to say I haven't been food poisoned by the M&M cookies which I managed not to gobble them all down until I got home.
Next Monday we are off to Carlingford!!!! I cant wait!! I will be posting next week all the things I got up to in Carlingford.

Princess In Training

Last week we, class Aurora had our first training in becoming a princess.
In our first workshop together as a class, a speaker named Garry thought us the basis of First Aid. I believe everyone should have some kind of knowledge of what to do in cases of emergency, something so simple can save a life. I always thought you were to tilt your head back when you had a nose bleed, but this is not the case. Ideally you are to tilt your head forward and pinch the nose just above the bridge.
Our second workshop was on etiquette. We had to bring our own pair of heels for this one. Kate and Brenda thought us how to carry ourselves correctly we then brought what we learned to the catwalk. We then practiced with books balanced on our heads, this took me a while to get the hang of. As the book kept falling to the floor. And to end our lesson of how to act, dress and walk like a princess we exfoliated and moisturised our hands with lemon scented exfoliater.
Our last workshop of the day was Positive Parties. This thought us to stay positive and happy, life will be so much more fun this way. We all wore flower garlands around our necks and played a game with oversized underwear and gave laughter yoga a go. All in all it was a great day, and I learned so much and I hope I keep this with me for in the future.
